THD Yellow Jackets

I think it was John who recommended trying some THD Yellow Jacket converters which work with EL84 tubs to replace some 6L6s in a tube amp.

I was wondering how tall are the Yellow Jackets with the EL84 installed compared to a 6L6? I've thought about getting a pair to try in my Peavey 5150 combo to knock down the wattage and soften up the sound, but there is barely enough room to get the 6L6s in, let alone a taller tube.

Also, if anyone has used the Yellow Jackets, drop a few lines about how they sound and worked out.

I have a beat up '74 Champ that runs an EL84 with a Yellow Jacket. It sounds amazing, and I almost prefer it to my (stock) '70 Vibrochamp. (That is high praise becausse I am a Fender/6L6 whore for the most part.)

The Yellow Jackets live up to their description. They are exceptionally easy to use.

Is the Yellow Jacket with the EL84 of greater length than a 6L6 tube?

There is just enough room to get a 6L6 in my 5150, so if the Yellow Jacket is longer, I don't think it would fit.

I don't have that Champ with me at the moment, but I seem to recall it being longer than a 6L6. You could always email THD. They are good about responding to questions from what I understand:

I e-mailed them last week and have not heard anything back. After looking at some close up pictures, I think the Yellow Jacket is probably an inch or so larger than a 6L6. It is probably too big to fit into my amp.

Are there any problems fitting the yellow jackets in place of the 6l6's in my Fender Hotrod Deluxe?
