alternative pickup placement

Anyone found any information on placing guitar pickups over the strings on the fretboard? I've done some deep Google searching and I can't find anything.

As a reference point, apparently Oren Ambarchi has one near the nut on his weirdo Washburn guitar.

I imagine you'd need to create your own mounting device, but I can't figure out how you'd wire the sucker to get output.

Well yeah you'd wire it the same, but into what? Do you introduce a splitter box and feed the wiring into that?

Double jack, AB box (or two channel amp(or best of all AB/BOTH box)), you're in business.

Behind the nut pickup mounts are tonally stupid/cool.
