hey my band's CD is getting towards completion and I need to start thinking about mastering....
was wondering who some of ILX musicians have mastered with, how happy you were with it, and how much it cost, relatively...

thank you.

i know very little but i would definitely recommend a visit to the Izotope website where you can catch the free ozone mastering guide which is one of the most informative things i've ever read about this.

Regardless of who you pick, make sure you hear stuff they've done. With all the "mastering software" out there, there are some severely underqualified people calling themselves mastering engineers now. Also, even for the guys who are qualified, some just aren't going to have your sensibility about what sounds good, you know?

rockers in the tri-state area seem to like West Westside in NJ.

I'd like to recommend you someone good in Minneapolis, but unfortunately I know okay-to-competent mastering engineers. One of them has my band's record now and is doing it "on his own time". WTF, mastering is supposed to take under a day.

Friend's bands have used a couple different pro guys in NYC with great results, though, let me know if you want names.
