UK Tour Venues?

I would like to set up a tour of the UK for April which I have never done before... Which cities should I go to, and what are good venues for an unsigned "band", which is really just me and my laptop? Also if anyone wants to go let me know, because I'm not sure if I should be traveling by myself.

I asked this question on ILM a few months back, and the response was fairly predictable and obvious ie towns with a significant student population. It rather depends on whether you're UK based or not. If you are, then you only have to look at the NME/Guardian/Etc listings sectionzzzz. If you aren't, I can't help you.

Bristol, Brighton and Manchester are very open towards electronic music (I think) so they might be good places to start. Some places might not be, for example Oxford (my hometown) which is essentially indie-rock city. I'm anticipating facial expressions along the lines of 'sh*tt*n* f**k mate, what do you think you're doing on stage without a guitar?' when my band eventually play there ;)

Oh yeah, you are referring to the UK. In the thread title no less.

I freely admit to being a well-intentioned knobhound.

Here's a question - are these venues going to charge me for the use of their PA/lighting/door persons??
A lot of these bars look like a bit of a nightmare to me - I think I really have to figure out the right ones to contact or I'll be miserable...
