providing tracks for adult video releases

Is there a standard contractual arrangement in the situation where an artist provides tracks to serve as soundtrack music for a p0rn video company? I'd very much appreciate ny advice on matters in general relating to this.

I'm a regular, not a troll, haha. It's a genuine question.

ratty you need your flat fee plus an agreement on 'usage' which is time-linked. ie if they screen it on cable for the next 10 years you need your palm crossed for it. a normal usage agreement runs for 12 months after which the production co. needs to stump up for renewal. it's probably unneccessary but it keeps your back in the event of a runaway hit.

right that's the sensible bit LMFAO this is where we all pitch in with wah-wah advice and post YSI penetrative squelch noises. i want a free copy dammit.

Thanks jc! I'll link you all to the appropriate NSFW site if and when the deal, erm, firms up.

stuff that actually makes it to cable tv/cinemax i'd imagine there are royalties possibly. POSSIBLY. for the vast majority of stuff, i assume they just dig into stock music libraries or throw something together with acid loops. i kinda doubt anyone makes a living just composing for adult film...

We were approached for this one. It's not a widespread practise though, or at least it's not widespread among the producers I know, so I think you're right. Surprising perhaps? There must be plenty of money to be made, and the soundtrack is often a weak link in adult movies.

My guitar teacher (mainly a jazz guitarist) told me he once did a live soundtrack to a sort of experimental porn where he and the rest of the band were supposed to react to what was going on in the film.

React in what way?

ratty, Tuesday, 3 January 2006 21:57 (eighteen years ago) link

Going up and down the fretboard, putting lips in an embouchure, that sort of thing.

Syncing wah-wah rate to penetrative rhythm, etc.

Though I thought all porn music now just consisted of a minute-long loop of some guy's sub-sub-Timbaland beat repeated a few times?

I think this company is slightly weirder, a bit more surreal/arty. We'll see.
