iTunes 6.0 is screwing up my Mac! (help request)

Ever since I got it my Mac has refused to recognize lots of CDs. I put the damn disc in and it doesn't show up on the desktop or anything. Obviously, I can't import the fucking thing. I wish I could go back to 5.0 BUT I CAN'T - it isn't available anywhere I look. The thing that pisses me off the most is that these are CDRWs that I'm burning vinyl to, and I use Peak to make the tracks.

Is this some DRM thing with the new version? Does it only allow you to put a given CD in a finite # of times? Anybody heard of this problem? Google searching forums has proven fruitless.

Example: I put in a finalized CDRW, it recognized it. I took it back out, unfinalized it (in my standalone analog burner), added a track, and refinalized it. Now it doesn't recognize it. Again, any insight would be most appreciated.

I barely understand your question. Although I thought there was a thing where CDRWs that were made in a Mac or PC often lost their "RW" nature when played with in the other platform. Something like that.

Hadn't heard of that, although it's not surprising.

Sorry for the phrasing, but I don't really understand the problem that I'm having very well either. Basically, it seems that my G4 is recognizing CDs and CDRWs some times and not others. I need to do some more diagnostics and get a new version of Onyx, I guess. And keep searching Mac forums.

I repaired disk permissions using Disk Utility and that seems to have fixed it - the CDRW in question now appears on the desktop. Still, installing iTunes 6.0 was the point at which this behavior started. I am happy, yet vaguely uneasy.
