I just bought one of these:

in a sale. Reduced from £349 to £229!

Made in Indonesia, eh, but what does one expect for that money? It is a beautiful looking thing, and appears to be very nicely put together. It passes the "pose in the mirror" test, easily. I haven't plugged it in yet (b/c I'm at work, but the acoustic sound of the thing is pretty damn zingy. There's a little bit of buzz on a couple of the frets on the lowest 2 strings, but I'm sure that can be fixed.
Obviously, being a guitar shop, all the staff were early twenties post-grunger-boi types. A lot of the shop's stock is BC Rich and Ibanez. Thus there was of course a certain pleasure in walking up to the counter and asking for it! Haha, the guy who sold me it looked appalled!! Someone asked if I was being served, and I pointed at it lying on the counter, and his hands started shaking!! (NB I am not making this up!) meanwhile, in the main room of the shop, this guy was buying a 1200 quid les paul for (I presume) his son, who looked about fourteen years old!! WTF!!?? Anyway, I'm very pleased w/it.

It's definitely very cool looking. I'm curious how it sounds/how good you think the pickups are.

It sounds pretty nice, I'm pleased (& relieved) to say. Overall, quite "bright". The controls are quite simple - 1 vol, 1 tone, pickup selector, plus coil tap on a pull-pot on the tone control. The difference between the tones of the 2 pickups is very strong, and the coil tap is pretty useful (I've never had a coil-tap pickup guitar before) It seems to be very versatile. I think my Epiphone twin-neck might wind up on the blocks. This guitar sounds a lot nicer to me than that, even tho' the Epi has proper Gibson pickups on the 6 neck.

This is a weird guitar! The neck looks Rickenbacher-like, but that headstock is like some '70s guitar...And then that Gibson-like body...Did you get the purple one, like in the picture? Does it have a lot of sustain?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 9 August 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I got the purpley-pinky one. the picture linked to above is a good representation of the colour, unlike the pic on Daisy Rock's website, which shows a darker shade of purple. The guitarist in the covers band I'm playing keys in has a couple of really nice old Washburns, which are a similar shape overall. The fret position markers are little slabs of translucent plastic, which run up to the edge of the fretboard and thus double up as edge position markers. Sustain is OK, certainly better than my Rick 350, though that isn't saying much, obv. I think it's about on a par w/the epiphone twin-neck. One thing I've noticed is that the bridge is pushed quite far back w/its adjuster screws, presumably as part of the setup. The intonation is fine tho', and I'm not really too worried about it at the price.

Aaaahhhhh!!! It's so pretty! What a beautiful guitar! What a lovely colour! Pinkly-purple is a good description. ;-)

Heh, ironically, the colourscheme reminds me of that Danelectro U-2 model that came in cream, with blue faded around the edges, I always fancied one of them, but I missed out. I've had my eye on this one for a while, and when it dissapeared from the wall of the guitar shop a few weeks ago, I thought somebody had bought it and I'd missed out, but I suppose they pulled it to put it in with the sale stock. I was walking to the Metro station to go to work on Saturday, and I glanced across, and saw it, from a distance, in the window, below a big "SUMMER SALE" sign. I suppose you can imagine how I felt!

one year passes...
These are pretty sweet too. And just reviewed favorably (favourably, I suppose) by Guitar Buyer! Not bad for, like, $350 at your local Guitar Center. Star inlays = pimp!

Kinda dig the "Tele" too...

They're not quite as badass as the pink Squier Hello Kitty, but seem like a step up qualitywise.
