Vinyl manufacturing — how much to pay and where?

Can anyone recommend vinyl manufacturers for a limited run (like 500) of a 7" record, given that I'm in the UK?

Bonus points if they're able to handle packaging based on artwork I provide (so I avoid dealing with multiple companies -- life = too short), but not a showstopper if they can't.

I understand http://www.gzcd.com/ based in the Czech Republic are good eggs, and I have a quote from them including label, sleeve, shipping and VAT of around £1.30 per record for 500. Does this sound sensible? Any (dis)satisfied customers of this particular operation?

Any other gotchs for a vinyl virgin (fnar!) to be aware of are most welcome.

Don't want to derail, but if anyone has anecdotes or wants to pass along info for the same stuff in the US, I'd be interested in that as well.

the cartwheel 7" i put out was pressed at GZ. i only did 200 and they were on coloured vinyl so it worked out to be VERY EXPENSIVE (about A$7.50 per unit). several of the copies had sticky grooves and the groove distortion near the end of each side was pretty noticeable on all the copies i played. but i think these days it's all a bit six of one half a dozen of the other.

whoever does sub pop's vinyl does an excellent job.

The place to do 7" records in the states is United, been around forever, cheapest, etc. urpressing.com

When my friend ran his label (Sickroom GC), the only problem he had was a completely useless batch of Bearsuit 7"'s due to the dodgy master he provided.

which bearsuit single was that? i have all of them but i don't remember them sounding any dodgier than the band themselves otherwise might..

Can't Remember, he paid for another pressing. Dunno what he did with the first one though.

Crest Myspace here: They played a one-off reunion gig last month. didn't get in though, the nostalgic demand for mid-nineties Norwich indie bands far exceeded my expectations.
