lamely, it costs money. (not lame that it costs money, lame that i cant afford even it at this point :( )

but thanks anyways! theoretically, actually, one could use TsampX (freeware sampler) and then trigger each of its 16 pads using midikeyboard, a freeware midi controller, but at this point i am too much of an idiot/newbie to get it working, but it SHOULD work, and would amount to the same thing, but free!

sooperlooper is a great live sampling application for os x that is part of the jack audio connection kit. read about jack before you try to use sooperlooper.

i actually already use jack, so this is cool. not exactly a dedicated multi-pad triggerer (as far as i can tell from the site) but looks quite interesting nonetheless. thanks a bunch!!!!!

so, to answer my own question: if you are interested in free software sample triggerers for OS X, the combination of the apps 'midi keyboard' and 'tsampx' will do the trick; set midi keys to 'virtual source' and to 'tsampx 2' and in tsampx you select midikeyboard as the input!!! who woulda thunk it. its not a perfect system (have to remember which keys correpsond to the midi notes) but IS NICE!! thank you and goodnight
