Ok. Situation with the jam is progressing amazingly well. Players are joining and the vibe is excited and creative. We all like what's happening and you can feel it in the room.
New issue is this. Until last week the drummer was a beginner on the kit... The first to respond to the classified ad I posted. Here's where I made my mistake... without trying out anyone else I said right off the bat sure you can play kit. Last jam she had to leave early and so I booked the next drummer in line and he was awesome. She played percussion.
Afterwards the drummer, other musicians and new drummer went for a beer and he asked if he could be the drummer and I told him that I already offered the job to her. He asked if they could split time between percussion and kit.
I asked her directly if she'd be willing to share the kit and she doesn't want to.
I should have made it clear to everyone that no one's locked in a position just yet (only 3 jams so far) ...
The right thing to do is to just let her continue (keep my word) even though other players have expressed their interest in the new drummer playing... (20 yrs experience)
Doh!! Being a band leader is all 'bout the politics.
It's important to be clear FROM THE BEGINNING.
thanks for listening..

Sounds like everyone is on the same page except for one person. You know what to do. Just get it over with quick. The longer you let it go, the more people are not going to be happy and the harder it will be to let the first drummer go.
