C/D: Mandolins

My dilettantism knows few bounds. I need a new toy, so I think I will buy myself a mandolin today, even though none of the standard musics that feature it are my cup of tea. But I need a different kind of jangle around the apartment. Any of you laptop and keyboard twiddlers out there play it?

I've played one (someone else's) and it was fun - I mean, it's got strings on it, how hard can it be? - but don't own one myself. However, the Mandoboys Mandolin Orchestra is one of the best things I've ever seen.
