whoa! this pedal is hella dank. on low levels it is nice and almost tubescreamery (almost), midway it's just great distortion, think maybe bernard sumner's tone, but then turn it all the way up and it's BREWTAL shoegaze shuddering fuzz. and then you can tweak the sound with the filter and resonance knobs to get multiple different tones. and it's all nice and warm. what a great pedal! due for a reissue je pense ...

I just sold my Rat. It was either uncontrollably feedback-y at the high settings, or at the low, not near full of enough of the chainsaw muzz-buzz for which I love my Hyper Fuzz.

there was something wrong with it then, because a normal one shouldnt be uncontrollable. that happens when the wiring isn't layed out well... the simplest reason for it anyway.

this thread is hilarious. i'm buying a rat

why are you people talking about distortion pedals that arent the mxr distortion II

hjkfld, Monday, 10 July 2006 03:30 (nineteen years ago)

I have discovered a world of sound with a certain pedal.

And that pedal is....

THE FENDER BLENDER.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Always wanted to try a Rat though...

Not likely. Some distortion pedals simply don't know how to perform in certain acoustic settings. The Rat is one of 'em. (Well, that or maybe I just let the battery stay weak too often.)

In any case, the Hyper-Fuzz gives the tone I'm after at ANY volume. It's about 1000x more distorted than the Rat. More waveform clipping than allowed by US law. It's got that drill-press FUZZ that sounds so glorious on solos and horrible on any chord not composed from tonic, 5th, and 3rd. Perfect for kicking in on leads. If you want classic 1960s fuzz, then I haven't found anything that does it like the Hyper-Fuzz. (For more chord-friendly distortion, I stick with the germanium-powered Fulltone 69 or the "drive" button on my Bassman.)

Sorry. I got a little excited there.

John Justen, Bataan death march of dimes. (johnjusten), Monday, 10 July 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

i dont know about that. US law allows for plenty of clipping.

AaronK (AaronK), Monday, 10 July 2006 20:41 (nineteen years ago)

JOHNNYBOY!!YOU ARE SO OTM ABOUT ME BEING OTM!!!!

This excitement for the blender is much deserved,so no apology needed.
Maybe Shoes would like it. Definitely NOT chord friendly!

fuzz and distortion are two different things. comparing the hyperfuzz to the rat is kinda apples and oranges, no?
