I think this makes it so there's no longer any reason to leave the ableton window during the project ever, at all. I could be wrong. I guess we'll see.

I'm super excited for this. The new instrument racks look awesome.

jng (jng), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

I'm just pissed because I finally ponied up the cash and registered my copy 1 week before they announced 6 and free upgrades

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 20 July 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

if 5.2 ISN'T optimized for dual core processing I am kinda scared of what I could do with 6. I pile lotsa lotsa randomized shit into my operator chains as it is and only peak at around 19%, ever.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 20 July 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

Surely you qualify for a cheap/free upgrade, Tombot? Check the Ableton site.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Thursday, 20 July 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, and maybe talk to someone...

AaronK (AaronK), Thursday, 20 July 2006 20:35 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, there's usually a grace period on the free upgrades.

The dual processing thing looks sick, the alpha testers have been reporting 60-70% extra juice on the Core Duo Macbooks.

Is there still no way to do groove templates, or am I missing something?

Ableton Live has been tempting me for years, but I was afraid to buy a copy and then have to turn around and buy a new computer and soundcard. Having a built in sampler makes me want to save my nickels and just make the plunge.

I've always been impressed by the filters in Ableton, they sound really good for software.

Earl Nash (earlnash), Friday, 21 July 2006 00:59 (nineteen years ago)

I asked them about free upgrades but no dice if you registered your copy before July 14th. Eh, shit happens. I got a job.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 21 July 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

hopefully the new sampler will make it easier to get around the grotesque limitations of Impulse. They REALLY need to re-think that module.

The beta of Live 6 is out here

jng (jng), Thursday, 27 July 2006 23:53 (nineteen years ago)

Is anyone here testing the beta? Thoughts?

Confounded (Confounded), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I've been testing it. Seems really nice so far. The new features are great, especially the racks. CPU use is much better too, even though I havent got a dual core thingummy. The Sampler seems cool enough, although I'm not sure whether I'll pay $200 for it yet.

jng (jng), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, getting really excited about this.

So how has the sampler been expanded beyond Simpler? I guess I don't really understand what a multisampler is.

dude thank you if for nothing else reminding me of that blog. I was totally reading it for weeks and then I blew out my history @ work and forgot what the hell it was actually called.
