Guitar EQ

I play a Strat and a Washburn. Each has its virtues, but frustratingly enough, both sound "simultaneously" good through no amp I've ever used. I ditched my Mesa/Boogie combo for a Bassman earlier this year: The Strat sounds fantastic thru the Bassman, but the Washburn is far too....bassy (heh). The Mesa did wonders for the Washburn, but it made the Stat sound thin. I'm not the kinda cat interested in carrying around 2 amps, so I'm thinking that a stompbox EQ unit is the magic bullet.

So, er, am I off base? If I can rectify this via pedallationism, where ought I look? Any suggestions at all are welcome (aside from ditching either guitar or using 2 amps).
