AS103NT has too much lower string sustain

Although I love everything else about my new Ibanez AS103NT, the excessive sustain (resonance)on the lower strings is driving me crazy...to the point where I'll have to sell it if I can't cure the problem. The lower strings, especially 5th and 6th, just won't be quiet. I'm having to constantly damped then with the heel of my palm. I've tried: different strings, pup height adjustment, every imaginable amp setting...nothing has worked. The only thing that has come close is thining out the overall tone (amp and/or guitar tone control) so much that the lower strings are barely picked-up. But then I lose the fat jazz tone that I want, as well. Any suggestions, short of selling it?

As the strings age, won't they hit a sort of sweet spot, when their brand-new resonance is gone but before they start to go dead?

Raise the tailpeice.

Learn to mute properly. (i.e. the problem isn't the guitar, I'm afraid.)

The problem may be the guitar. I've got at least one guitar where the A string resonates an awful lot when the strings are new but then settles down after I've played them out a bit.

Also, are you using flatwounds?
Because if you're going for a Jazzbox sound, flats are the way to go.
