There is a deal on this @ the moment, something to do w/NI having some sort of anniversary. I've fancied picking it up for a while, b/c even though I dig my e-mu hardware sampler mightily, some of those multi-gigabyte libraries do look really nice, and not all ridiculously expensive. My drum sounds are a bit lame, and I fancy Sonic Couture's "variable ambience drums", which looks like a really good deal. Does anyone own a copy, & how is it working for you? Is it a massive resource hog? (technical spec on NI's site looks reasonable, but...) any other issues (othe than the fact I'll have to buy a DVD drive and a 3rd HDD for the music box, argh)

Also, what type of copy protection does it have? Specifically, does the box you install it on actuall have to be connected to thee intar-web (this could be the deal-breaker if so)

Unless NI has changed the way they do it, you don't have to be connected to the infernet with the computer that their software is installed on. It makes it easier to register your copy, but there are other ways to register.

It's been a while since I bought anything from NI though. I upgraded to Battery 2 I guess a couple years ago.

It is the typical NI copy protection scheme (you don't have to be online to do it).

All NI products seem to be discounted atm, including the FM7 for $99 oooooooh

yeah for $99 its worth it for shure. Its not an easy program to master but not too difficult for basic stuff so you can use it out of the box no problem.
