DI C/D?

I bought my bass amp because it sounds lovely. I most certainly didn't spend five hundred quid for soundmen to plug my bass into a D/I box which is stuck into the input, leaving me with a very expensive, glorified, monitor. Bah!

Why is this done? Why don't they just mic the amp? Bah!

Perhaps they think that one less mic to worry about placing and turning on at the right time, the better. When I played a week ago, the sound woman forgot to turn on my vocal mic until we stopped playing the first song in silent protest. Mebbe she thought I had a DI.

i like to combine the DI and mic'd amp sounds. each on their own isn't quite there

Soundman's job is to make you sound good, not to make his own life easier. If you don't want DI, say so.

C.

I cannot overstate the degree to which my life got better when I stopped carrying around a bass amp. Given the general stage size and sound reinforcement situation I'm actually in, in most clubs--and given what they audience will actually hear and care about, the cost/benefit is easy to figure.

Meanwhile, crappy PAs = D.
