Having now been in a band for a while, what do you wish you knew way back when?

For me it's the way publicity and momentum work in the music biz. There were so many times when we'd get a "break" -- we'd open for someone big, or we'd get a nice write-up -- and we'd think, "This is it. Now we're going to get lots of interest." And then sure enough, if we got anything out of the event at all, it usually fizzled fast.

Things don't really snowball that easily - if I could go back in time, I'd take a much more proactive role in making those write-ups and big shows count by pushing much harder. I kind of feel like after five years we're back down at the bottom of the hill again.

That, for sure. Also: if you want attention, start a fight. Who said that? I think it was Banksy. Wise advice.

Don't wait until the gig to work out exactly what the $$$ situation is.

Rule number 1: The bar/club owner is ALWAYS trying to fuck you over.
Rule number 2: There are no exceptions to rule number one.
