The new version is out soon:

http://http://www.zioshow.com/images/db/news/kp3.jpg

"The KP3 features 128 great-sounding effects programs containing new effects such as grain shifter, decimator, a vintage analog-style filter and expanded EQ. There are also drum grooves and unique vocoder and synth sounds derived from the Korg Radias. To prevent abrupt changes when transitioning from one effect to another, the new FX Release function adds an adjustable delay tail when the user's finger is removed from the X/Y pad. The delay is automatically set to the current tempo and the depth of the FX release can be set and saved with each program."

I haven't felt the Kaoss-love until now, but that really is something I don't think I can resist.

The only time I ever got to play with one of these, I just drunkenly/giggily tweaked a drum track until it was just a BZZZZZZZ tone. So much fun. Need one of my own.

I've got a second gen Kaoss Pad, and guitars sound terrible through these things. I bought some high quality cables for it too. But Nels Cline and Jonny Greenwood seem to get some pretty cool results out of them. I need to experiment more.

But this third gen deal looks pretty cool.

two years pass...

has anyone played with the kp3? how does it interact with audio production software of choice? like, can you on-the-fly edit with it as a midi controller synced up to ableton or sonar or garageband or etc etc?

four years pass...

people seem to be down on the kaoss pad quad in general, but it looks like exactly what i've been wanting to do more accurate tempo-based effects in a laptop-less, midi-less live setup.

yeah this is exactly what i've been looking for, so fun.
