A friend of mine asked me if I could play bass for his noise punk/hardcore band - I can't actually play bass, but that shouldn't be an obstacle for a noise punk band. But I do have a couple of fuzz and distortion pedals for guitar, so I was just wondering if I could use those on a bass, if I decide to give it a go. Which I probably will, depending on how much a cheap crappy 2nd hand bass costs.

yeah, the only thing that might happen is that depending on the frequency range of the pedals, you might get less (or no) distortion in the lower register on the bass. most old school fuzzes wont have this problem, but most modern ones (esp the boss/digitech sorta stuff) will prob get a little weird on the low e in particular. sometimes youll actually lose a significant amount of volume on the lower notes as well. but yeah, nothing earthshaking here really
