so, this is the thread where we voice our concerns about accidentally destroying our equipment

if i have two distortion pedals, both dialed, running into a fender twin, should i worry about damaging the speakers? or any other component of the amp? what about a solid state amp?

sorry if this is totally idiotic/obvious etc.

Safe, it'll just sound sucky.
Well, if it's cranked all the way you might be putting a little more stress on the speaker than clean(square waves) but overall, I wouldn't worry. Most guitar amps have speakers rated well beyond the output of the amp.

test your fender twin setup with a bass first

am0n (am0n), Monday, 8 January 2007 04:03 (eighteen years ago)

clean(square waves)

I hope you mean that his distorted output is like a square wave, and not that the clean signal is a square wave. (Because it's not.)

I'm pretty sure he means the distorted wave

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 8 January 2007 06:10 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah.
it will cause more damage than clean(IT'S square waves AT THAT POINT).
is what I meant, guess I should have said more.

thanks for the info. it doesnt sound crappy if you tweak it right though!!!

am0n what cable should i use 4 that

millenarian (millenarian), Monday, 8 January 2007 07:34 (eighteen years ago)

Make sure you use one that lets all of the music get to the amplifier.

How much actual Db boost do the pedals have? Distortion itself shouldn't be a problem, but if you're stacking boosts on top of each other, that could be an issue if you were diming the amp as well...given that it's a twin, I doubt you are, though.

If you are, please consult earplugs thread immediately.

IS IT SAFE to have the phantom power switch on my recording interface/ soundcard/ mic preamp thingy turned on all the time (with the mic plugged in), or should I turn it off and/or unplug the mic when I'm not using it?

Dan I. (Dan I.), Tuesday, 9 January 2007 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

Turn it off when using a ribbon mic.
Otherwise it's GENERALLY fine.
Check your mic's instructions.

is it SAFE to plug my headphones into the 1/4" balanced jack where the mic is supposed to be plugged in with the phantom power on? will my ears get warm?
