This is the challenge: record an album in 28 days, just because you can.

That’s 10 songs or 35 minutes of original material recorded during the month of February. Go ahead… put it to tape.

-----

I'm in a Lecteur11. Going to try and finish.

Anyone?

i'm gonna do this. february seems likely to be quiet enough to fit it in.

jimbo (electricsound), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 04:16 (eighteen years ago)

SaILo can do that in a day, but I don't want to enter with that. It's not fair when it's supposed to be stupid.

Lukewarm Watery G. Tornado Wants his fucking hot water (The GZeus), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 04:22 (eighteen years ago)

i do this every month anyway

Copy (2) {AWOL} v ECC 28/05/06 (Lynskey), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

considering i write about 2 songs a year i thought it might be a nice change

jimbo (electricsound), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 09:34 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't written a song in 5 years, and was never prolific before that, but I'm going to give this a good shot. I've already purchased a CD writer for my band's 16-track (which has lain unused since we discovered PC recording). Nothing's going to spur me on more than that €21.49 I'll have wasted otherwise.

I am tempted, despite a busy month ahead.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

ok i've signed up for this.
my plan is to make a simplistic electropop album.
(hi dere ralf und florian!)

three weeks pass...
Hey, did any of you guys actually do this? My band did, we're just finishing up now - I think one flute track to record and then a quick mix. Hopefully this will work: The Chemistry Experiment at RPM Challenge.

emil.y, Monday, 26 February 2007 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

i desperately wanted to do it but after an initial burst of activity the rest of my spare time was taken up recording other bands (one of which pretty much qualified for this challenge in itself..). o well. i'll finish what i started sooner or later just for the hell of it

electricsound, Monday, 26 February 2007 02:49 (eighteen years ago)

Is this different from National Solo Album November or whatever? (I tried to do that last year or the year before but just couldn't find the time. Still, got some good song germs which turned into real songs later, which I suppose is the point.)

Masonic Boom, Monday, 26 February 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

How long we got left? 2 days?

Mark G, Monday, 26 February 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

The albums have to be postmarked for the morning of the 1st at the latest, so yeah, pretty much two days.

It is different from NaSoAlMo (for one thing, it allows bands), but I'm pretty sure that they credit it with inspiring them (along with NaNoWriMo). There's also a National Drunk Writing Night somewhere as well.

WE FINISHED YEAH

emil.y, Thursday, 1 March 2007 00:52 (eighteen years ago)

Ach, I always miss these!

One month, as opposed to 2 days, could have been done.

Mark G, Thursday, 1 March 2007 11:33 (eighteen years ago)

ten months pass...

anybody in for 2008?

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 January 2008 22:52 (seventeen years ago)

i'm still trying to finish the one i started last year :/

zappi, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 00:27 (seventeen years ago)

In the second half of 2007 I didn't get around to doing nearly as much recording as I wanted to, so I have a backlog of unfinished stuff. So although I won't strictly speaking be starting an album from scratch on Feb 1st, I will be using RPM as a way of kicking myself up the arse to finish some things off.

snoball, Wednesday, 30 January 2008 11:57 (seventeen years ago)

Um, this is the first I've heard about it, but it seems I'm engaged in starting and completing an album in a month at the momment.

S-, Thursday, 31 January 2008 02:47 (seventeen years ago)

electricsound, Thursday, 31 January 2008 05:54 (seventeen years ago)

Hurting 2, Friday, 1 February 2008 14:00 (seventeen years ago)

n/a, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 13:36 (seventeen years ago)

I've never heard of this but shit I need another excuse to not get a job in Feb. I'm in.

nickalicious, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 23:28 (seventeen years ago)

ha. I finally polished off the canasta remix so I think I might do this.

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 23:30 (seventeen years ago)

i have a concept and rules. recorded guitar for 10 tracks, adding keyboards now.

n/a, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 23:49 (seventeen years ago)

two weeks pass...

I'm almost done, just need to re-record a couple vocal parts...AND that's when I got sick. I'm so congested I can barely speak much less sing for anything...and RPM website says EIGHT DAYS left. I'm going to try some drastic face-flushing procedures, and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to settle for shitty vocal tracks.
