THIS HERE IS THE THREAD WHERE YOU CAN ARGUE ABOUT COUNTRY OF ORIGIN ISSUES, OR THE WEATHER, OR WHATEVER DOESN'T HAVE TO DO WITH MUSIC.

If you want. I don't really feel like it at the moment, but I thought we might as well keep it all in one thread.

Ok then.

I dislike buying from places that lie to their people.
Also Vietnam, because I respect my father('Nam Vet.).

so, like every country in the world?

*rimshot*
It's more about lieing about atrocities and aloso preventing people from attaining the truth on their own.
I was way too non-specific. Perhaps this goddamned cold/flu/SOMETHING AWEFUL is to blame, perhaps not.
I'm gonna lay back down.

Lukewarm Watery G. Tornado Still Rules at Doom (The GZeus), Monday, 29 January 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

I guess you have good arguments for not buying from companies run by the state. But I don't think most things "made in Vietnam" are made by the Vietnamese government... and so you might be keeping money out of the hands of someone who agrees with you, and could help shape the government to be more in line with your thinking. Hard to say.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 00:17 (eighteen years ago)

Taxes.
I want economic sactions to be made until the people revolt.

Lukewarm Watery G. Tornado Still Rules at Doom (The GZeus), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 01:14 (eighteen years ago)

After all, people who have been economically distressed to that level of desparation usually end up installing the most ideal new regimes.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 01:58 (eighteen years ago)

They tend to go in the polar opposite direction.
The problem could be solved if our government invaded coutries we could WIN against, or if they'd fought those wars properly in the first place.

If the sanctions happened QUICKLY (ie a sudden blockade preventing all trade) with a clear ultimatim, they just might fold.

Things aren't ideal, but I don't see why I should send money into the countries I don't like.
That money goes in, and doesn't leave. They don't really import alot of US goods in Vietnam.

What I'm proposing is what they're doing to us. Well, the inverse, kind of.
An economic drain. China wants to drain money from us, take away our manufacturing base and other blue-collar work, and other things to motivate us into some kind of change or to weaken us for the invasion.

SO.
I propose we do the same.
It's your right to disagree.

Yeah, right. China holds over $340,000,000,000 in US T-bills. Put a regime-changing economic squeeze on China and they'll cash in and drive the dollar below the peso, not to mention the results that an embargo would have on the vast majority of US industries who traffic very, very heavily in Chinese goods. The only regime that'd be changed is the one in power in the US at the time of any hard-core anti-China economic actions, whether instigated by the administration or private individuals. That's not to say that there are trigger-happy folks in charge in China: They've benefitted quite nicely from this strange procedure of creating goods that they pay us to buy, and nobody there wants to put a premature end to it. Threaten the regime, though, and say g'bye to our collective nuts.

There are plenty of good arguments not to buy Chinese -- e.g., China makes a tremendous amount of worthless crap, the BEST of which arrives in the US, believe it or not -- but none of them have to do with regime change. You might as well resolve not to buy magic potions from goblins for all the good it'll do.

But go nuts. Boycott China to yr heart's content. I have only one point to make, and that's this: Chinese regime change is as salient to musical gear-talk as is a discussion of the proper tuning of a Klein bottle.

We let it get that far, wait, the government did.
I say get the hell out while you can.
They'll do it one day. We will be made poor and then be invaded.
They'll lose, but it will happen.
We'll get screwed, but they're army is incapable of an effective invasion.

Again, I don't want MY money going to a country I don't like.

Do you understand the difference between a resolution of personal morality and a critical analysis of musical hardware based upon its intrinsic merits and one's professional and not-so-professional experience?

Based on your comment about China invading the US, my guess is "no".

A knife to his wife Eve and his credibility. (goodbra), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

I never said X hardware was bad because of where it is made.
That would be stupid.
Please do not put words in my mouth.
It makes me angry.

Aren't you a Japanophile? Wow.

Steve Shasta (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 17:35 (eighteen years ago)

HAHAHA They DO lie the hell out of that shit in the schools/museums.
HOWEVER!! They don't prevent access to websites/books/PEOPLE with the correct info.
Also, Japan's lies are generally so ridiculous no one takes them seriously. My friends all know they struck first and why(imperialism).

Lukewarm Watery G. Tornado Is Sicker Than You (The GZeus), Tuesday, 30 January 2007 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

I already know they're full of bullshit.
OUR textbooks are full of bullshit, but people with brains can and DO find out the truth.

xpost: You said it. You categorised yourself(correctly or not) in a negative light, and me in a naive' one.
I attempted to show that I don't expect to change the world, but I simply dislike my money going places I don't like(especially since it's not coming back).
Regardless, I'm confused as to why you would be upset about your own words.
You obviously take yourself and your sardonic cynical nihilism-esque attitude a little to seriously.
Was I being VERY sarcastic and venomous with that last post? Yes, but turnabout is fair play. So stay off my back, I'll stay off yours. I have no idea why my opinion matters enough for you to emotionally invest in it. I get upset when strangers insult me. You seem to get upset when strangers have differing ideas and express them.
Do you spit on protestors, or something?

I honestly suggest chilling out and re-examining you social interation polocies.
