I'm now obsessed with finding a use for this thing: http://www.ibanez.com/eg/guitar.aspx?m=RG2228
What I've come up with so far:
Slightly unconventional slide guitar.
Touch-style guitar.
Tune it to something like a tin whistle. I think they have 8 or so notes.
Put a couple slightly flat strings in there to play Oud pieces.

Anything more clever or silly?

Fencepost.
Doorstop.
Split it down the middle and make two shitty tenor banjos.

That's all I've got for now.

Looks pretty fucking awesome for me. I love my 7-string and I could easily take another string!

At least it's a 27" scale, although if you did two low strings, that's still too short.

how about a humbucker/single coil guitar that splits the output from both pups into different amps?

Those are actually more common.
And usually have fanned frets(the good ones do).
The number of strings makes intervals wide as 4ths cause low strings to be floppy or high strings to be twangy. Tension, flexability, standing waves, clang tone....
fanned frets solves that problem. I want me a fanned 8 so bad.

I honestly think tuning this like a harp and just capoing to the key/octave appropriate is the best idea. The ability to freely fret allows you to do more on top of that, but imagine doing harp pieces on this!
Or just playing stuff on something with that much 'fret' and playing it with one hand.

I lend creedence to my first idea.
Alot more common than you think, John. Though you do have me on the bridge spacing.

Priciest one.

Except maybe this...

In any case, the banez is still the most expensive, and nota great idea.
I still say it would be funny to walk out wearing that guitar, pull the case out, take it off, put it IN the case, THEN start playing.
