(also: omg imm's first parody thread?)

honestly though. how big do you think a group has to get before they can legitimately throw things into the crowd, and expect them to want it?

the bassist from terrorvision once gave me his half drunk can of bitter. i was like er.. thanks. and then a girl next to me was totally like OMG CAN I HAVE IT? and i give it to her in exchange for a blowjob

ken c (ken c), Friday, 7 October 2005 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

the blowjob bit isn't true

ken c (ken c), Friday, 7 October 2005 08:14 (nineteen years ago)

Hi, Ken, I really don't want to cramp your style, or hate your fun, but can this board PLEASE be free of parody threads?

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

it's not really a parody thread though.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 7 October 2005 09:28 (nineteen years ago)

haha

i kind of like it actually (if it were a true parroty thread). it makes it still keep a little ilx spice.

a friend's band has a moderate following mostly of friends and maybe a few others. not very big at all, but they throw things into the crowd all the time. but i think it's more their aspirations for arena rockstardom than it really suiting the size of their audience.

AaronK (AaronK), Friday, 7 October 2005 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

A band I was once in used to throw fortune cookies into the crowd. However, they were simply for eating.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Friday, 7 October 2005 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

The band I was in in college was called The Buddy System, and a year after our first show, we played a birthday show in commemoration of our debut, and people brought us presents. One of the presents was the record of one of the many other bands called the Buddy System, which I don't think I've actually ever listened to. We brought a cake and everything, it was a blast.

We used to make food on stage and then feed the crowd after the second set. Jambalaya, turkey necks, etc.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:12 (nineteen years ago)

My high school band rocked the variety show and two girls gave me flowers. later that year i fucked them.

bingo (Chris V), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

The flowers?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:29 (nineteen years ago)

LOOK OUT FOR BEES!

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

i hate you all!

bingo (Chris V), Friday, 7 October 2005 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

I had a band that threw out candy once, but that's it. And I've yet to have anything thrown onstage for me, but I'm waiting!

We used to make food on stage and then feed the crowd after the second set. Jambalaya, turkey necks, etc

Is this for real??

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Friday, 7 October 2005 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Seriously, Roxy. I think we're going to do it again this weekend.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

so you bring a microwave oven on stage?

ken c (ken c), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:09 (nineteen years ago)

Slow cooker.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

I feel the need to refer you to this thread How long are rock bands expected to play?

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

Haha. I guess in my rock band we won't have time to cook on stage. :(

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

HOT POCKETS, UNDER THE ARMPITS

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

I caught a Melt Banana frisbee at ATP 2002. Yay!

Some crap band enticed the "crowd" to the front by giving away free beer and CDs. I had to settle for a CD. Meh.

Ben Dot (1977), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

Making hot pockets on stage is a good idea. If you finish your song before they're done, then you can give them out to the audience. If not, then you have to eat them.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Our first show, we brought cheesecake. Our second show, we brought a big bottle of Maker's Mark. Our first CD release party featured a copious spread of food. And then we started getting lazy, which was dumb, because that was a totally successful technique. Our first show went much better because everyone was like "oh, they brought the cheesecake? homemade?! they're rad, let's listen!"

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 7 October 2005 19:33 (nineteen years ago)

Totally. I don't want to hear about your website between songs, I want to hear "Hey guys, we've taken the liberty of preparing a table of hors d'oeuvres at the front of the stage. Try the crostini."

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

This one local band here achieved some level of success by handing out apples. They also brought some hot glazed donuts once.

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Friday, 7 October 2005 19:43 (nineteen years ago)

This is how disco got started too right? Free food at the Loft, Paradise Garage, etc.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Friday, 7 October 2005 22:21 (nineteen years ago)

"ARE YOU READY FOR EDAMAME?!!!"

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 8 October 2005 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

Is that the Boredoms who said that?

k/l (Ken L), Saturday, 8 October 2005 00:26 (nineteen years ago)

Gary Young of Pavement made everybody cinnamon toast from the side of the stage at a gig in Glasgow years ago. Amazing, he literally had about three mother's pride loafs and margarine and cinnamon spread and a toaster set up, crazy! He was really nice, chatting to people in the queue, I remember he had the most piercing blue eyes.

mzui (mzui), Saturday, 8 October 2005 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

delicious!

Roxymuzak, Mrs. Carbohydrate (roxymuzak), Saturday, 8 October 2005 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

Looks like we're doing hot sausage for the show tonight.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 9 October 2005 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

Specifically corn, potatoes, and sausage all boiled up.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 9 October 2005 22:30 (nineteen years ago)

The food was a hit! We cooked it on the street outside the club.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 10 October 2005 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

And you were a hit as well, then?

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 10 October 2005 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

I recall Regina Spektor at Tonic feeding the crowd cheap chocolates. It was a Valentines Day concert.

The crowd loved it, I think. I froze in a ten-minute-long wince.

joseph cotten (joseph cotten), Monday, 10 October 2005 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

And you were a hit as well, then?

Oh yeah, the show was a total blast.

However, it turns out that since we were serving the food outside, it was mostly the smokers that got fed (Madison smoking ban = you must smoke on the sidewalk).
