Sharing Band Members/Collaboration

How common is this in your "scene"?

Do you share band members and/or collaborate with other bands, or are you musically monogamous?

Do you find it a good thing or a bad thing? I mean, obviously it's negative if there are scheduling conflicts and you can't play a gig because your drummer's other band is playing that night, but do you find positive benefits from it, i.e. cross-pollination of ideas?

We are almost monastically unplugged-in and monogamous. It's sad, but became easier to record that way, as you didn't have huge scheduling issues--also, in the past, we would not be collaborating so much as it was "thanks for coming to jam, here's a song I wrote, can you help play on the recording?"

For a while, our monogamy wasn't such a big deal, as the stuff we made didn't really jive with what our few friends did anyway, but now that we're searching for a drummer to tour Europe, it's painful. Kind of a NIMBY karma thing.

Incestual. It's good, because there's a large sub pool to draw from.
