Using VST plug-ins with AU software/Logic

Hello;

I've just read the VST freebie/cheapie thread, and somebody mentioned something called the AudioEase VST Wrapper. How does this compare to the FXpansion wrapper?

In particular, I'm concerned with multi-output VST instruments. I use Logic Express 7 and the FXpansion VST-AU wrapper to convert VST plugins to run as AudioUnits. For the most part, this works OK (coming from Cubase VST on OS9, there are a few plugins, such as Attack, which I have grown used to using). There are some problems: for example, some multi-channel VSTis (Attack among them) don't work in multi-channel mode. (I.e., when I assign sounds to other outputs and assign those to auxilliary tracks, no sound comes out of those channels). Does the AudioEase wrapper work better with multichannel VST instruments?

Don't know how the AudioEase compares to the FXpansion, but bear in mind that a great deal of those freebie plug-ins are actually available as Audio Units, especially the Digital Fish Phones & Smartelectronix stuff.

I don't use Logic, but in Digital Performer the AudioEase wrapper will give you multi-outs with a VSTi.

doesn't the new version of Performer use another method to work with VSTs?

Not that I know of. The only ways to use VSTs with Logic/Digital Performer that I know of are the AudioEase and FXpansion wrappers.

What are the main differences between the AudioEase and FXpansion wrappers?

I just looked at the AudioEase page. It looks like it makes VST plugins look like MAS plugins, not AudioUnits, thus making it useful only to Digital Performer users.

Oh yea, shit, forgot about that, sorry.
