Lately I've been experimenting with shoegazey sounds with a simple Boss delay pedal. I've found that if I have the volume all the way down, strum the chord, and then increase the volume again, I can keep adding to the "sound texture" created by the delay. Although this works and sounds nice, it's easy to accidentally add a pop or click to the sound and totally ruin the accumulated effect.
So I had the idea that if there were a pedal that could filter out the Attack of the chord, then I would not have to go to all the effort of messing with the volume. I've tried googling and searching for this pedal I have in my mind, but all I've been able to come up with are Auto-wah pedals and that is definitely not what I'm looking for.
Does anyone here know if a pedal like this exists ? and if so, what is it called etc etc

Reverse gate with a slow rate sounds like it could do what you want but I dunno if they make just "reverse gate" pedals really

This is killing me because I KNOW I've had something in the store that did this, but I can't remember what.
I'll be back.

also, I think you could probably get a cheapo multifx processor to do this. I'll experiment w/the digitech rp50 ($50) and the $60 zoom when I get a chance.

there is also of course the option of going the lindsey and getting an expression pedal for volume changes on the flyeee

Look into a used Adrenalinn, model II. That will do it. There are bunches of capability in it for filtering out the attack and layering with delay. May be more expensive than you're willing to go.
I've had one since the I chip set and it's made for these types of things. Plus quite a bit more -- amp modeller, drum machine, etc.

I think Line 6 has a pedal that does this.

DL4 Delay Modeller?
― snoball, Friday, 19 October 2007 17:56 (seventeen years ago)
I dunno. I was playing with various delays in the musick store, and the Line 6 pedal I tried had this ability. I was really in the market for analog delay, so I didn't pay much attention to it.

I don't have a DL4, but it's been on my gear wish list for a while so I have a copy of the manual. Below is a quote from it:
Auto Volume Echo This model gives you two effects in one. The Auto Volume part of the equation is a volume fade in swell, like the attack time on a synthesizer's envelope generator. This can be used for a bowing effect, like you can get by turning the volume knob on your guitar quickly up from zero just after you pick a note.
Future_Perfect, I think that matches your description but you'd have to try one out in a store to be sure.

I'm not quite sure what exact sound you're looking for, but I switch off between a Boss RV-3 Reverb/Delay and a Microverb - each one with the dry signal at half volume or just off completely.
