Thinking about picking up the line for my store, but I haven't been able to get my hands on one. They look great, but I worry about the playability. Anyone have any thoughts/experiences w/these?

ugh gold hardware is so tacky

I agree in general, but for some reason, I love it on white hollowbodys (I blame gretsch).

To make up for the gold, this is also probably going to make the grade:

Actually, if anyone has any other small brands (guitars or pedals, whatever) they've been digging, feel free to mention it. They're more fun than the mega-brands these days anyway.

what would Creed play?

Jordan, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Now that's just mean.

Also, those Silvertones were crap, whereas the Supros and Airlines are sometimes kinda fun/decent sounding/interesting sounding.

John Justen, Monday, 22 October 2007 20:49 (seventeen years ago) link

those particular silvertone models were crap, I mean.

Eastwood seems to have a pretty good reputation in the affordable'n'quirky world. Reverend is probably worth a look at the price point, maybe Sparrow too...?

rogermexico., Wednesday, 31 October 2007 04:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I hadn't checked out the Sparrow stuff before, interesting (although hot rod flame paint jobs don't really do it for me anymore). I'm getting mixed reviews on the Reverend stuff.

Truth be told, a lot of this rests on where we decide to go with F3nd3r next year, esp. when it comes to Reverend and the Sparrow pseudo-teles. The sudden appearance of shit tons of American Strats in Best Buy up here next week is going to irk me. a lot.

John Justen, Thursday, 1 November 2007 19:02 (seventeen years ago) link

One of the guitarists I play with has on of the Korean Reverend guitars. He has the one with the Gretsch style pickups and an f-hole not unlike a Ric. It is a pretty sweet guitar.

I've never seen any of the Eastwood's in person, but some of them are quite cool. I like that non-reversed firebird looking thing with the two P90s, although I don't know about the basswood.

I have lusted for those DiPinto Bacchus semi-hollow body guitars. I've never seen one in person, but they look cool. Some of their solid body guitars are pretty wacky and also have that nu-retro styling.

two years pass...

woohoo, we are finally a dealer!

this has taken forever, but i havent been this excited about a new line for a long time. also as of right now we are their exclusive MN dealer, so that should get us a bunch of likeminded folks into the store.

these are better than expected, the airline map in particular is just this booming almost semihollowbody deal. pickups across the board are really interesting and sound great. and the delta 6 is an amazing idea that actually works and and and

as a jaded music store dude it is really great to actually have something that just kind of blows you away and is actually exciting, ive got that weird speedy feeling you get when you see something totally new and get it in your hands and it is 10 times cooler to the ear than it was to the eye.

the surprise sleeper of the whole deal is the P-90 Special, which i sorta bought as a safety guitar for the less adventurous types (in TV Yellow tho, im not that boring), and its a total RAWK MONSTAR, biting and gritty without being thuddy. i have no idea where they're sourcing these pickups, but its obvious that they did their homework and didnt just go with off the shelf generic p-90 #74 or whatever, the pickups in this guitar are a great fit.

Shower to the sheeple! (jjjusten), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 20:57 (fifteen years ago) link

btw in case peeps have hands on questions about any of the other instruments, in this shipment i got:

p-90 Special
airline map
delta 6
JR elite
stormbird
sidejack dlx
airline lap steel
EUB-1 fretless

Shower to the sheeple! (jjjusten), Tuesday, 26 January 2010 21:00 (fifteen years ago) link

Ohhhh I've totally trotted past pics of the Delta 6 thinking it was just some dobro w/a pickup at the neck and that's cool and all but shit that thing's a solid body? I did not notice. And a piezo at the bridge and...I've never fucked w/ a blend circuit before and fuck that thing looks fun.
