Hey Tim. In light of your recent revelation on the photo thread I'd love to hear your thoughts on how to get those Music Machine style fuzztones. I can see the danelectro and the vox amps but I'm curious about pedals and any other details that you'd care to share.

first of all, is your social life a dud?

Yes, my name really is mud.

Flatwound strings are key! Mr. Bonniwell himself revealed this to us. I used a Big Muff on the tour, which worked well.

Also, the original Music Machine tuned down as much as a minor third. We were tuned down all the way to C on the tour.

Interesting. I put flatwounds on my Mustang out of curiosity and they feel really nice. Roundwounds were unavailable in the 60s weren't they? It's also interesting to know that MM drop-tuned as I never would have thought of that. Thanks for the info.

"Roundwounds were unavailable in the 60s weren't they?"

I don't know. Flatwounds were very common, at least.

I'll bet you can bust out some real Jan Savage fuzztone licks w/ flatwounds on your Mustang. Probably be pretty good for Music Machine, too.

I think the Mustang is heading to Ebay but I'll probably try some flatwounds on another guitar.

i dont wanna derail too much toward ILM-territory, but is there any nuggets band rhythm section as heavy and funky as the MM's?

The original MM drummer Ron Edgar was really good.
