So I tried in 2005. FAIL.
But now we (ex Shimura Curves peeps) are talking about doing it this year, just for kicks.
Anyone else gonna give it a go?

(I am considering deliberately recording some bass through a guitar amp JUST TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS - new experimental direction DO YOU SEE?)

Nah, looped through a pointy nosed ginger.

Has anynoe ever done this and NaNoWriMo at the same time?

I am planning to. Although on the album side I'm cheating somewhat because I'm continuing with the tracks I recorded for NaSoAlMo 2007.

That's mega-cheating!
I already committed to WriMo, so maybe I'll do this belatedly, in December.

Do you people have dayjobs?
I can't imagine doing both at the same time and working fulltime. :-(
I was thinking of doing either No or Al this month, but figured, novel-writing has been far easier for me lately (besides, I only just finished and posted up the last chapter of the last one!) and since getting kicked out of my last band, songwriting has really suffered in terms of my finding the time to do it... err...
Anyway, I mentioned it to one of the other Shimruas girls and she was all HELL YEAH so I am inspired!

I'm trying to decide which one is more difficult. "No" in theory should be easier, as you can write a bit here and there during the day. But the last time I tried that (writing bits on the train to and from work, during breaks, etc.) the result was a mess. I think that writing 1600+ words a day requires me actually sitting down and doing that whole day's quota in one block. On the other hand, "Al" should be easier for me during the songwriting phase. I did RPM in Feb 2007 and found the songwriting bit the easiest part. The problem was that everything else was difficult, as recording etc. takes time because of the setting up of equipment.

I'm trying to find the picture of the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers playing a gig using an amplified mattress and unintentionally irradiating the audience...
Did this really happen, or have I conflated this with some Hawkwind documentary?

OK, I am going ahead with this plan. Hopefully as much guitar as possible, within the limits of local noise.

Freaking job, freaking golive deadline, freaking everything... not gonna happen this year. But there's no reason I can't do it by myself in, say, January.

Hey wait I thought this was in February and a bunch of us did it?

That's either RPM (Record Production Month) or FAWM (February Album Writing Month), both happen in February.
― snoball, Tuesday, 4 November 2008 12:29 (sixteen years ago) link
that, I might be in a much better place to do!

RPM is a bit more flexible, because they allow groups to enter as well as individuals. With FAWM, actually recording the songs is optional, although it's encouraged. There's also a FAWM offshoot called 50/90 - 50 songs in the 90 days between July 4th and October 1st.

I always think "I should", and then I think I won't.

last week or so, progress reports? instrumentals, done. no words or vocals because i have no idea what fucking lyrics to use for this shit, this close to just reading headlines out of lifestyle magazines.

I'm recording a double album this year, 47 tracks in total. 36 tracks completed, 11 to go, but 8 of those I have no idea what I'm going to do. Doing this at the same time as NaNoWriMo is do-able, as long as you don't have a job, don't have to live in a cold house, and don't get sick at any time during the month.
― snoball, Sunday, 23 November 2008 11:49 (sixteen years ago) link
am sick, have job :/

Also helps if you don't have to listen to people YELLING UP AND DOWN STAIRS ALL DAY!!! Although that affects the novel far more than the album, because I can put on headphones. I wish people would at least try and be in the same room as the person they're arguing with. It would make things marginally quieter.

woo finished, hurray for one-take vocals and t-painful pitch correction
― atlas thugged (m bison), Sunday, 30 November 2008 22:33 (sixteen years ago) link
I have six songs to finish up, but should have it done by Wednesday. In my defence, it's a double album. For the prosecution, another six tracks were from before November.

i barely skirted in wrt to the time restrictions (i think it clocks in at a lean 34 minutes or so)
― atlas thugged (m bison), Sunday, 30 November 2008 22:39 (sixteen years ago) link
That's at least five minutes over the absolute minimum!Did anyone do a cover version? I did a terrible rendition of PSB's "Ye5terday, When I Wa5 Mad"
― snoball, Sunday, 30 November 2008 22:45 (sixteen years ago) link
I was going to do a cover of jackson 5's "i'll be there but i had written a much different chord structure so singing the original lyrics and melody wouldve been weird, so i just used the sample now up here as "there" (http://www.myspace.com/ohthisisathing)
