Anyone use a tube power amp for their stereo? I've been looking at the latest issue of Stereophile and there are tons of cool looking tube power amps all over the thing. There's one ad for a components manufacturer that says, "Use a Transitor, Go to Jail" and has a picture of a guy getting arrested.

Why does this stuff always have to look like it's straight out of Tesla's lab?

I was using a Dynaco ST-70 for a while but I have to get it fixed. A friend of mine is way into this stuff and has a mid-high-end all-tube setup. I used to be way into the idea but lately I'd rather go for convenience, reliability and compactness. But if you have a lot of money to spend it's a fun thing to pursue.

I'm way into saying "way into" today.

Yeah, the stuff is not very affordable. These might be one of the least expensive. I suppose you buy a pair of them?

Those Antique Sound Lab amps aren't such a bad price. You can get a lot of this stuff for much less second-hand because audiophile types are always upgrading and trading their old stuff in. This is what my friend has and quite frankly I don't think the sound is really anything special.
