I dunno that I've ever heard of a music software program that was particularly cooperative about slaving to external midi clock

The operative keyword here is free.

I am annoyed that Operator, which was introduced years and years ago and has seen nary a new feature or upgrade yet, is still far and away the best actual noisemaking tool in Ableton Live, while they try to big up Garageband amateur hour "how about we sell you a bunch of presets wouldn't that be fun!" bullshit with simpler and its 'big brother' sampler

ass clowns

I can't get friggin' Reaktor 5 to work in Ableton Live. Every time I try to close something, it freezes at the "yes/no/cancel" box. ARGGGGH!!! DAMN YOU REAKTOR 5!?!??!?@#?!@?@#%?

four years pass...

does anybody know the best way to minimize distortion when I change a wav file's sample rate from 48kHz to 44.1kHz? I tried doing it in Audacity (w/a little bit of prior lowpass filtering above 22kHz) and the result sounds terrible. I fear I may have to just rerecord this one.

i have never got distortion doing this in any other program, sounds like audacity is fucked. qu1stg4rd edit pro can do it easily if you have, er, access to it

Never mind, it sounds fine once I export it to WAV and open it up in another program. I think there's just something funky about how Audacity plays back 44.1kHz files since my sound card is set to 48kHz.

I had a Emu soundcard on my old lapop and this kind of stuff would lock it up, like say trying to play an mp3 in a player when the default sound card set to 48khz.
