best orchestra and brass samples for logic studio? or live? or reason?

I haven't used it, but I've heard a lot of praise for Garritan Personal Orchestra.

i have miroslav and it's ok, not fantastic - you would use it for embellishments but never as a solo instrument

apparently arturia brass is ok, but softsynth brass is possibly the final frontier

i just bought the mello-tron/chamberlin refill for reason, it was on sale for 35 bucks. i am having buyer's remorse right now.

nb: wasn't buying it for the needs stated above, but still, why does Reason sound so flaky?

is it the sonic reality one? if so don't be remorseful of that, i'm a big fan of that refill

Yeah! The SR refill--it sounds flaky to me in the sense that it sounds rather thin or small. I don't know how to explain it. My friend has the bigger Mellotron/Chamberlin sample set from IK, and that for whatever reason sounds bigger and fleshier. I can't explain it. I love Reason, so that's not the issue, but it sounds different. Still, I spent all night playing around with Jon Brion-like string arrangements. FUN!

Garritan is the best I have heard. However, I don't think it's been updated in ages. I haven't actually tried it on my new Mac w/Logic 8.
