huh. i know nothing about these. time to go hassle my fender rep. The removal of the upper bout rythym controls on the Jazzmaster is sad, though.

I think they're there, just hidden by the dark guard.

Yes, they're there. They're definitely there!

Hmm - this is interesting. I'd like to try these just to see what effect the changes have on the sound. With the arm moved forward and a tune-o-matic type bridge, the trem will probably have a more strat-type feel, which is not necessarily a good thing. There'll be less string rattle, I guess, but I wonder if there will be less of the shimmery overtones from behind the bridge that give the sound so much of its character?

Any info on the pickups out there?

I like the look of the Jag with humbuckers - it's everything the Vista Jagmaster was supposed to be, but clearly wasn't.

I thought of it more as a version of the CIJ Jag HH.

fwiw, the Classic PLayer strats and teles are awesome and punch above their weight. Well worth getting over any knee-jerk "$800 MIM WTF?" imho. If I were in the Jag/Jazzy mkt I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these (used).

Black Jazzmaster looks awesome. I had a chance to play a J. Mascis JM reissue and it was pretty great - wonder how these compare.

Still want to know what the pickups are like

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 21:13 (sixteen years ago) link

oh yes, i see the controls now.

sad statement on the level of status that non-corporate Fender dealers have these days that I had to find out about these via ILX. daer fender U R assholes.

don't feel bad John, they seem to have been pulled from the MF site as well... looks like someone jumped the gun... wonder if we'll hear about them at Summer NAMM?

ok i have the info. part of the classic player series, 9.5 radius, 799 street for solid colors, 849 for burst. "hotter" pickups, which makes me skeptical and probably soon to be annoyed. more info when i get a chance to read more.

John Justen, Thursday, 15 May 2008 20:59 (sixteen years ago) link

oh yeah also, the return of the paisley strats and teles (no blue flower though ;_;)

John Justen, Thursday, 15 May 2008 21:01 (sixteen years ago) link

arrrrgghhh Olympic white only available in the HH Jaguar. BOOOOOOO lame. Jazzmasters come in black or burst (boring) jaguars come in burst or candy apple (meh.)

commitment to conservative colors in the classic player series is one of the reason i've never stocked any of them.

John Justen, Thursday, 15 May 2008 21:03 (sixteen years ago) link

ok, more details - medium jumbo frets, weirdo hum/single blend/tap pots in the hh, neck pocket reangled, trem plate moved closer to bridge, adjustomatic bridge, screw in trem arm, all pickups referred to as higher output and "fatter" (enforcers in HH model).

wish the pink was just a little bit duskier, though, if they're importing the Japanese Fenders

milo z, Thursday, 15 May 2008 22:29 (sixteen years ago) link
