I've been on this self-gratifying Basic Channel/Monolake/Fluxion/Deepchord tip lately, and I'm having trouble finding the right tool for granular synth stuff. I've tried GRM, FLStudio's little gran filter, and Ableton's gran delay. Ableton's is my favorite, but I can't afford to buy the newest version yet.
Do any of you guys play with granular synths? Are there any good synths out there that are generative instead of effects VSTs? I don't really have a lot of samples sitting around to use as source material.

I just downloaded Crystal, but really haven't had the time to mess with it due to other software concerns. It says it can do granular, and it's free, so give it a shot.
Otherwise, you can download Pd and google for granular patches. Some will be better than others.

Crystal seems cool. Thanks for the suggestion. Still trying to get my head around it. Pretty powerful little soft synth considering it's free.

Audiomulch has a bunch of fun granular modules, although they're delay units only, IIRC.

atomic cloud is good for very basic cloud generation.
has anyone had any experience with kenaxis? Also Granulab is meant to be good, but can't get it to work.
