Built in stoopid tuner, stoopid "drum machine," stoopid chorus, stoopid flange, stoopid auto-wah, many stoopid auto-modeled amp sounds, and RUNS ON SIX AA batteries. And it sounds shockingly aswesome. I took it camping this weekend!

I'm thinking of replacing the carrying strap with a backpack harness, and riding around town playing bass on roller skates. I'd probably fall, but it's fun to think about!

But what happens if you play a regular guitar through it?

I don't want to find out!

How is the bass response from four 4" speakers? I wonder why Roland didn't go with a single 8" speaker, that would probably be better suited to bas frequencies?

I'm shocked by how good the response is. It's really full, has almost as much bottom end as my Fender 15" combo. I'm primarily using it with an acoustic bass guitar (yeah, yeah, I know . . . ), and I barely turn the volume up; it just fattens out the bottom so that you can hear and feel it as though it's a 'real' bass. Really worth playing around with at your local shop, if you get a chance.

There's a guitar version as well, mostly the same features including the "drum machine". The guy demoing it is (unintentionally) hilarious, especially the hand gestures when he says "From clean to mean, and everything in between".

People mess with the guitar one all the time at the store where I teach, it sounds quite good for what it is.

Hey, I have an important question about this thing, actually! Basically ... does this thing have a decent tone at low volume? I was playing with one in a store, and (for various bedroom-recording messing-around reasons) kinda wondering about taking it home and using my condenser mic on it; it seemed like you could keep it at a pretty low bedroom / condenser-mic volume and still have the tone of a proper amp.

It really does, [nabisco]. I've been absolutely shocked at how even the thing is. You could absolutely use it for that purpose. It also has a line out, although I haven't used it so I have no idea how that would sound.

Excellent!
I actually use a line right now -- direct from a modeling pedal into USB -- because I don't have any way of micing up my amp that works at bedroom volumes. Being able to run through a mini-amp and mic it with the same condenser I use for acoustic instruments and voice would be great. It'd give more things the same room sound/space, instead of fighting with a weird mix of acoustic recordings, line-in guitar, and software programming.
