Just bought a secondhand monitor amp and speakers and plugged my cheapy Edirol UA-20 into it. Playing back MP3s through the USB soundcard produces a nasty digital background fuzz. What is this and how do I stop it? I've noticed this on club PA systems using two different computers but the same soundcard and it's very frustrating. Surely cheap and cheerful as it is the Edirol isn't supposed to produce this kind of noise?

i ask because i get that sort of noise with my ua-25 if my lappy is plugged in (rather than running off battery) while using it
i believe it's a design fault of laptops.. don't know if newer ones suffer from the same issue

it's gone now, as if by magic. I noticed the kettle lead in the back of the desktop wasn't plugged in properly.

mmm... it still makes a bit of a fizzle, and it's especially loud if i use my laptop whilst plugged into the mains (running through batteries it's much better). one thing i've noticed is whatever computer i use, nuendo is the thing that seems to be producing this sound, even if i save the mixdown and play it through something else. any ideas?
