they are the worst

this ties into my whole "bands work better when they are not democracies" theory, but seriously, this ties with loading out at the end of the night for the worst part about being in a band.

we don't have band meetings, i send out band emails that everyone ignores

i was looking forward to the band meeting that i have tonight for that reason, but now there's all this drama. there might even be...voting.

Don't you just 'meet' at rehearsals, gigs, etc?
― f f murray abraham (G00blar), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 23:57 (fifteen years ago) link
in bands that have good leadership and not a lot of drama, yeah. my main band never has meetings. but tonight this other band has to talk about the keyboard player quitting, the lead singer wanting to fire the backup singers, losing our rehearsal space, and other fun topics that people will probably have Opinions about.

Yeah, I guess I have been to band meetings, but they were only when bad things were going down. Recently even that's been done through email though.

I guess my point is band meetings are the worst.

band meetings do not work for the same reason that marriages between four heterosexual males do not work.

At least that's how it's been with my bands -- I've never been in a long enough running band with a female and/or gay person to know if it's different.

hmm, our band meetings are usually pretty painless but i suppose it helps that i'm still good friends w/ the dudes i'm in the band with. 9 years and running.
they're usually full of stuff like: 'dude, lets make some shirts' 'yeah, with skulls on them!' 'make sure to get some XL ones this time' 'oh yeah sure, ok'
then everybody forgets about it and nobody makes the shirts and we do it again a month later

the worst is having a band collectively mix any recording
― Fox Force Five Punchline (sexyDancer), Thursday, 26 February 2009 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah our band meetings are usually just ideas for projects that we never actually do

My band broke up five years ago and we're still debating on the running sequence of our still-unreleased album.

Most of my band meetings were pretty much like this.
"So I think we need to make more of an effort on flyering.""yeah..."...Silence, looking at watches..."Maybe we should think about what kind of goals we have."...silence, looking at ceiling...

in my band meeting last night we decided not to break up and convinced the lead singer apologize to two of the people who quit yesterday because of his dickish emails.

the last band I was in, I was more of a hired hand to fill in and had nothing to do with songwriting or booking. It was always a lot of fun to be the Silent Bass Player and just listen to them all fight over who stole the band fund.

oof, mixing as a band is really tough. i know i'm going to sound like a gtr player/songwriter douche when i say this, but i feel like the drummer should never be allowed into these sessions. :D
'my snare drum doesn't crack like it should''ok, but a more dull sound works really well in this song, it fits''................ my snare drum doesn't crack like it should'
then subsitute snare drum w/ every other single piece of the drumkit and repeat w/ slight variations

HA HA HA HA HA HA, erm, it's exactly the same.
Except more sweetness and light and agreement to your face, and more catstabbing bitchiness behind each others' backs.
Get a manager. Have them do it all by email, that's the only way forward.

Hmm, that sounds different than what I mean, although probably for ultimately related reasons. I'm more talking about a complete lack of communication of any kind, like everyone in the band is the distant husband.
