Neck pickup doesn't work, instrument jack was rusted tight so when I tried to unscrew it I twisted it round and round and pulled out the ground wire free, want to put new pups in it...can't do a damn thing because I don't know how to get it open.
Someone once suggested one of those little dental mirrors and a pen light but ummmm...nooooooo thanks....

Do you have any pictures? Someone here might have the same type of guitar and be able to help.

Sorry, no idea - I thought you were talking about an Ovation electro-acoustic or something with a circular sound hole.

ok first of all, be prepared for the fact that this is going to suck.
what you need to do is pull the electronics assembly out through one of the pickup holes. what this means is that you have to remove both pickups in their rings, the switch, and all of the pot and jack nuts. as you do this, you have to attach some long wires to each pot and the jack and switch individually that will allow you to pull them back into place after you have done whatever you need to do. Don't be half-assed about making sure that the loops are secure, because if one of them falls off as you pull it back in place, you are kind of screwed and have to do the whole shake the guitar in the hopes that the component falls back through the right hole. Also, make your life easy and thread the nuts onto the appropriate wire before removing the pots etc. so that you can screw them on while the wire is still attached.
Second option that I hate but that you also can do (re: pickup replacement) - remove the pickups in their rings from the guitar and pull them to the maximum length you can, cut the leads, and splice the leads from your new pickups onto the remainder of the old lead. KEEP IN MIND: you are probably going to end up with obnoxiously short leads on the removed pickups, making them functionally useless. Also, don't forget to tape off all your splices to avoid phantom shorts later on.
I have to get to work, but feel free to ask for clarification as I am not rereading this until later and might not be being clear.

What's pissing me off just as much is that a prior owner has SUPERGLUED the neck to the body (in addition to bolting it on per usual...)
ugh
