It's late '60s / early '70s short scale Kalamazoo, I forget the actual measurement. Basically I think I'm going to have to get one custom built. What am I gonna wind up spending? Know any place good in the US?

When it had a headstock it sounded sorta "THOOOOOM"y, but really awesome in a cheap, dirty sorta way.

Stop. In the name of bass.

What happened to the headstock? Looks like a very clean break or did someone saw it off in a moment of madness? Combined with the "jug of pee" thread on ILE I am mystified about your lifestyle.

Collects junked guitars. Will Ray owns the lifestyle and writes a column on it for Guitar Player. Of course, since Ray gets to write about the junked things he purchases on eBay, there's a financial upside. When everyone reads it, the items appreciate, becoming more expensive junk.

It belonged to a friend of mine. When he was living in Portland he shared a practice space with um...well I forget what band, but the band became (falsely) suspicious that my friend was using their expensive equipment and mangled the headstock...ripped it clean off like that, shoved one of the strings between the neck and the fretboard. That night both bands had to play together, which they did, with this bass, "fixing" it with tape.

He wound up owing me a little money, and I said I thought I could fix it, so now it's mine....

check the scale length and the dimensions of the neck pocket, and you could get lucky. stewmac or warmoth both sell bass necks but you have to measure your body and compare that to what they have.

I met a guy at a party who gave me a number of someone local who could make me a custom neck but 1) I lost the number, and 2) I was drunk and don't remember who gave it to me and also 3) I kinda hate telephones anyway but that that's a moot point by now. ;_;

Will check around some time again. I think the scale is around 30", though not exactly. Something odd like 29 or 29.5 or something weird that I don't see very often.

Thanks.
