How are your shows/gigs going?

Last night we played the Corner Lounge, which is a Knox joint we've never played. It was fantastic, we played great (drummer and guitarist diagreed, me and lead guit in agreement that we rocked it, crowd agreed we rocked it -- no I didn't ask them collectively ;), the sound was AWESOME -- normally I'm annoyed when we have to sound check, sound check, sound check (esp as I was called to sound check RIGHT as I was about to get my smoke on with the other band -- LAME!!) but it paid off. Lots of people told us we were slendiferous and this guy who's kinda a mover and shaker around here that we're going to record with was there and loved us.

Also, *important*: I wore a beautiful black skirt with little rosses all over it, knee high argyle socks, and a Bernard Sumner combo of sweater/white button-up. I was very cute. Lead guit wore his hair in bunches. Other guit and drummer were well-dressed, both at the same time (rare!) WE WERE ALL CUTE!! Thank god for shows in your own town that are good.

My band is not slendiferous, we eat too much.

We should get an IMM come-to-show-exchange thingy going on.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 15 October 2005 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

Punk by default, Hurting. The band loves dumpstered humus and the floors of strangers. Me? I like hamburgers, hotels and wireless internet.

For me, breaking even IS a successful tour.

Roger Fidelity (Roger Fidelity), Saturday, 15 October 2005 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, again I have to say, that song is really good emily. Tell me if you ever come to NYC, and next time we're in the Knox, I'll drop you a line.

Our last show went ok - it was at Trash Bar in Wmsbg. It was one of those nights where we got dumped on with rain, so I think that made the turnout a little smaller than normal, but still not a bad crowd. New bass player pretty much nailed everything no problem. Lesser Birds of Paradise were great as always. Places (Amy Anelle) wasn't as good as I expected - I think maybe the sound was bad.

I Karaoked Roy Orbison (Crying) after the show. You guys should have heard me.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 15 October 2005 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

Also our completely non-tune-carying steel guitarist did "Young Girl", which was one of the funniest/strangest/creepiest things I'd ever seen.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 15 October 2005 22:18 (nineteen years ago)

It is shameful how much money you can get for playing covers. I've played a couple of weekend gigs and made more than I did in the entire run of some originals only bands I have played with.

Those for whom music is most important are perhaps the least likely to "support" it, financially.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 16 October 2005 03:37 (nineteen years ago)

We've had one nearly every week for the last couple of months. We've got one in Bristol this week and the Hope & Anchor on Nov 18 and then we're taking a couple of months off to write as many new songs as possible. We might play in Dec/Jan if we're offered something good, but we're not really looking to play until Feb.

Doing a series of gigs has been great from the point-of-view of getting around the country, playing different kinds of venues and in front of new people. We're pretty confident in our ability to win over a strange crowd now. But...we're getting tired of some of the songs. Last week, in Brighton, the middle of the set had 3 mid-tempo songs in row, which was a mistake, and we sort of dragged our way through them unenthusisatically. This week we're going to stick to short and fast, apart from one song. We play better like this, and there's still enough variety in the set to grab the audience's interest.

We've already started work on the new stuff and it is a real step forward and quite a different sound. I will be playing guitar on most of this material rather than keybds. I can't wait to get some of these songs finished - hopefully we can get a couple in the set for Nov 18.

We've got to train a new singer before we start gigging again. Would also like to do some recording, but my housing troubles have put the kabosh on that. :-(

I suppose we should just line up a gig and use that as a deadline.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 17 October 2005 08:02 (nineteen years ago)

Have you got a new singer yet?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 17 October 2005 08:15 (nineteen years ago)

Yes! We have drafted abducted been joined by the lovely Marianna of this manor, who will be taking over the contralto parts while I move to second soprano.

Paranoid Spice (kate), Monday, 17 October 2005 08:23 (nineteen years ago)

Wow!!

Dr. C (Dr. C), Monday, 17 October 2005 08:42 (nineteen years ago)

We haven't played a show since the end of August, since we've been prepping to record, and now I'm not sure that's happening. :(

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 17 October 2005 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

How come, Nick?

I had 3.5 gigs over the weekend -- one club gig + after set and two corporate type gigs. The club stuff was a blast, as was one of the private things (outdoor in a beer garden for a cystic fibrosis benefit), but the convention center gig was a little demoralizing (in the "getting treated like busboys" sense).

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 17 October 2005 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

The dudes who were supposed to record and release it haven't responded to any emails/calls I've made in the last couple of weeks to try and set a firm recording date. But I was just emailing our drummer and we just decided that if we don't hear from them by the end of the month, we're going to record and release it ourselves again. We're ready to move on and write some new songs and play more shows.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 17 October 2005 15:13 (nineteen years ago)

You can write new songs anyways. Or record a bunch of mine, I have songs to spare.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 17 October 2005 21:05 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, that's too bad, but if they're that sketchy then you probably don't want them to put out your record anyway.

I just got some great news on that front btw. The festival that we played and recorded at during the summer wants to pay for the pressing of the cd, and take a couple thousand for promotional purposes!

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 17 October 2005 21:17 (nineteen years ago)

four years pass...

my band is playing its last show on friday. i might be bummed later, but i'm kind of excited right now - we've got a good set list ready to go and most of our friends are coming and we're playing with good bands at a low-pressure venue, so the show should be fun

hopefully we're still going to record the last few songs we have sometime in december, though we won't have anywhere to practice for that and don't have firm plans to record anywhere yet

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:17 (fifteen years ago)

you guys should all come to the show. it's going to be uncomfortably loud and crowded.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:19 (fifteen years ago)

aw. RIP. have an awesome show

jazzgasms (Mr. Que), Monday, 16 November 2009 19:22 (fifteen years ago)
