C'mon, everybody's cranked up the bass, hit the echo/effects and produced a track you think sounds like Lee Perry, right?
So howsabout we do a dub thread?
Tracks can be as old as you like (old skool, or just plain 'recorded many years ago')
yeah? or no?

I've never tried making a dub track, but I'd like to have a go. Apart from mad bass and FX, what else do I need? Particularly from a lyrics standpoint.

"scratch" (har har) that last question, I've just looked it up on Wikipedia...
The dub sound consists predominantly of instrumental remixes of existing recordings and is achieved by significantly manipulating and reshaping the recordings, usually by removing the vocals from an existing music piece, emphasizing the drum and bass frequencies or 'riddim', adding extensive echo and reverb effects, panoramic LR delay, and dubbing occasional snippets of lyrics or instruments from the original version.

ooh, i did one the other day based around beach boys' bicycle rider vamp. played through my studio speakers it sounds great, sadly through my stereo it's WAY too bass laden (in a bad way). I'll upload tonight!

Remix of a song called "On The Bus", with the verse vocals removed and a dub siren added in their place. Also added a new bassline. Probably a bit too heavy on the bass...http://www.sendspace.com/file/xbw53b

This is a mix of three-quarter-baked tracks I've been working on - most of them are attempts at dubstep. The first track is the dub reggae influenced one.

demo of dubstep track i did recently - cliched but classic sirens, the cutoff variations towards the end were recorded live and unedited which was fun

cheers steve. Yours sounds very professional-sounding compared to mine. Needless to say I liked it, but for some reason Soundcloud plays things back way too quietly - is there a volume control within the site?
Interested to know what software you're using? I'm using Reason almost entirely.

just using Acid Pro (for over ten years now!), really basic tho - i don't sync it with plug-ins or MIDI etc. just import stuff edited in Sound Forge. there is a fuckload i need to know software-wise.
Soundcloud plays back at normal speed for me but on the actual page for a track you don't seem to get volume control (unlike with embedded clips) which is nuts.

Soundcloud volume control is not on individual playback waveform-gadget but on top right of entire page, click on the speaker symbol above the search box
some good stuff on this thread, liked yr mix dog latin
