cover charge

what's consider a reasonable cover charge for a local band where you live?

also, my band has a cd release show coming up next week and the cover charge includes a copy of the new record. $12 - too much or just right?

if it were up to me all normal shows would be 5 or 6 bucks, anything over that starts to make people hesitate, it seems.

depends on the show, depends on the band, depends on how many other bands are on the bill - $5 or $6 is what I consider average and reasonable. If it's a house/warehouse show or something like that, it is often considered reasonable to charge less.

Place I used to live we just went around asking for donations for out of town band which seemed to work if we were actually diligent about it, iirc.

xp to Jordan: I'd go with setting a regular cover charge, sans record, + an optional deal ($12 sounds reasonable!) including the record in the cover. I imagine you'll pack in more ppl that way.
