This London Power Scaling thing I've heard about but never had a hands-on w/: C or D

Have seen amp geeks on the innernets talk it up as the miracle alternative to master volume. Thoughts and whatever?

(Also 65 Amps do something like this and call it "master voltage" iirc?)

It sounds feasible, ie, not a scam or audio snake oil. But really just something like a Marshall Powerbrake? Except instead of coming after the output transformer, Power Scaling goes between the output tube and the output transformer.

output tube -> output transformer -> powerbrake -> speaker

vs

output tube -> power scaling -> output transformer -> speaker

I mean, it's going to sound different compared to a regular attenuator, but would it be any better? Seems like it's aimed specifically at people who want to plug their guitar straight into their amp and still be able to get high gain distorted tones, but without the volume. But most people I know who want distorted tones use a stompbox fuzz/distort/od.

I think it's for people who prefer the sound of their amp (whatever range of drive that is) to stomp boxes and still want some amount of volume control. Which seems reasonable to me.
