Guitar Strap Buttons/Strap Locks

My personal preference is Schaller. The Dunlop strap locks look as though they'd detach if they were wacked against something.

Guy who fixes guitars for a living would like to cast an emphatic vote for schaller. (although tbf due to price increases-lol $ vs € - we are selling an import knockoff these days that seems to work just as well)

I've got them on two guitars, and the only very slight problem I have is that the thread for the nut could do with being a tiny bit longer, just for my peace of mind. But having said that, they're been solid for over two years and haven't shifted at all. I love the solid German "clunk" as the mechanism engages.

I have no idea what are on my guitars. I'm recalling one particular instance during a show standing on one leg and holding my guitar up with the other, still playing, eye-motioning for a friend of mine in the crowd to 'hay help me out a bit here'. So maybe I needs to watch for poll results.

No Grolsch bottle rubber-washer option?

I used to have some Schallers, don't know where they went. Used Dunlops for a bit but they kept popping off. I've got some on my Jaguar Baritone that I guess are some sort of Fender version of the Schaller style, they're a lot smaller than my old Schallers were, less obvious looking.

I forgot about the Grolsch washer thing. Also I missed off Ernie Ball strap locks (never seen them in real life). And those cheap plastic ones that Dunlop also make that fit over the existing strap button, and have a circular bit in the middle that twists 180 degrees.
I thought that the Schaller style locks on Fenders were actually made by Schaller, or at least made under license. Didn't know that they were a different size.
Did the Dunlops pop off because of getting hit against stuff, or simply the weight of the instrument?

Ah, I was thinking of the plastic Dunlops - didn't realise they had 'proper' ones as well. Could well have been the weight, they were carrying a '77 Ricky 4001. Anyway, they were useless, but maybe they'd be alright on a Danelectro or something.

haha, I just went to look at my Jag and they're proper Dunlop StrapLoks - they came with it second hand so I just assumed they were standard fit. I've not had a problem with them yet, but I think I preferred my old Schallers.

It really depends on the guitar, as the Dunlop work pretty good on an SG, Explorer or any guitar where you got a strap button on the back of the guitar, since they are more flush than the Schaller. Schaller's work good to just not even put them on the strap, just bolt them over the top of the strap. You do that, it's not going anywhere and even if that thin nut comes lose, your guitar is not going anywhere.

Don't know if it has changed, but you can often find the Fender branded "Schaller locks" cheaper than the actual Schaller ones. I think they are both made by them, but at least a couple years ago, the Fender one's were like 10 bucks less a set.
