Is it safe to plug a mono jack into the audio in of a macbook (pro)?

sorry about the bass/guitar amp-esque question, but I haven't got my external audio box and I need to record some AM radio now (11pm) and all I have is a mono 3.5mm - 3.5mm lead.

Infuriatingly I can't find an answer to this simple question on line either.

Putting mono jacks into some stereo plugs can blow them.

Anyway, it seems to work, though badly and couldn't action it in Audiomulch anyway.
