Musical rejection

So how do you folks deal with musical rejection (getting you or your musical work rejected in auditions, competitions, what have you)? I need to know because my ways aren't too healthy.

(I pinched this from Dr Hook *) My view is that if I were to sell a million copies of an album in the UK - that's a Madonna level of sales - then there would still be 60 million people in this country who didn't give a shit. I'd much rather make music that I really like, but only sells half a dozen copies, than make music that I hate, but sells millions. And as much as I dislike Gene Simmons, during the first series of "Rock School" he said something like "you're gonna hear people say 'no' a hundred times more than you're gonna hear them say 'yes'".

(* original Dr Hook story: They had their first US number 1 single, and had a band meeting to discuss how they were going to handle it. They came to the conclusion that even if they had 50 consecutive US #1's, there were still 900 million people in China who didn't care. It's recounted in more detail in the 1st comment here http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2008/10/dr-hook-when-youre-in-love-with-a-beautiful-woman/)

Yeah the way to deal with it is to not be concerned and keep moving doing what you want to do. I'll spare you any platitude wisdoms but really it's not worth giving a shit.
