Any MPC 60 users out there?

I've been using some pretty crappy hardware sequencers for the last couple years (MMT-8, MC-500), and I need a crash-course in MPC usage. Are songs created by stitching together patterns? How intuitive is the interface? Thanks.

i have an mpc 60II that i've not used in a while (last i used it, about 5 or so years ago, it started glitching up. i really just need to have it serviced). i owned it since 1992. my high school friends and i used to fuck around and make beats. but yeah, songs are pretty much created by editing sequences together. there can be up to 99 tracks per sequence and up to 99 sequences per song. it's a pretty intuitive and easy to use machine. i never owned a manual and was pretty much able to figure it out by just playing around.

Don't have an MPC60, but I have been using a MPC2000xl for quite a few years. I think you can pickup the basics within a couple of sessions. The think I dig about the MPC's sequencer is that it is 'playable' compared to many hardware and software sequencers. If you are someone that wants to manually enter notes into a sequencer like in software, you might hate it, as that stuff isn't really there, but for programming drums the MPC is great.

I've got a love hate relationship with making electronic music, a few years ago I got sick of synths and pretty much sold off all of my MIDI gear but the MPC. I've since gotten back into messing with synths again and my MPC is in the middle. I've tried quite a bit of software to try and go that way, but I never really find one that is 'playable' like an instrument. It might be me, I like mixing music on a PC, but I've not liked any software for sequencing.

Thanks for the thoughts, all. Now have an MPC 60 mk II in my possession. Looks to be in pretty good spec, but I have to get in the habit of saving EVERYTHING to disk before shutting off the machine, or it`s all lost. :]
My only problem is that I have 4 synths I want to hook up, but once daisy chaining MIDI cables begins, I get frustrated. Thankfully the 60 has 2 ins and 4 outs, so I can at least have 2 synths on the go with little fuss.

Yeah, I still think the MPC is the only sequencer that you can actually play.

one year passes...

I just got an MPC500. is there some sort of software that lets me create MPC sequences on my computer and them export them to the MPC? just curious.

mpc maid is for assigning sounds to banks iirc

i have the 1000 not 500 but you can create a midi sequence on any daw/sequencer, export it as midi then save it to the HDD/CF on the mpc & load it into memory

unless you're talking about an actual mpc sequence using internal sounds in which case what i said does not apply

i had a bit of a hunt around and i can't find any computer-based mpc sequences editors at all, which surprises me a lot
