Yeah, this has gotta happen now.
Here's the advert I posted on DiS a few weeks ago. A drummer/bassist is interested, along with one of my good friends. She can't play anything yet, but she will. More importantly, she has the attitude. The fiery, questioning attitude. That's all you need really. I'm finishing my MA soon and I want this to be a thing! A huge whopping mind-melting spewing rollicking thing.
Awesome, completely open-minded bandmates wanted to play chaotic avant-rockHey! Well, I've listed my favourite four bands in my profile: Cardiacs, Van Der Graaf Generator, The Fall and Ulver (roughly in that order); I want to form a band that sounds like none of them. What I *do* want to sound like is a fearsomely intelligent, noisy (but not always), audience-engaging art-rock outfit with a sense of humour and the desire to challenge both itself and everyone it comes into contact with. The whole project will focus on song narrative and expressive performance. It will be savage, tender and above all fun.I play a bit of bass but my predominant role in the band will be as one of the vocalists. I would like there to be more than one vocalist.Any instrumentalist may apply. It's not about how well you can play, it's about your attitude. You've GOT to be the kind of person who thinks that music is enjoyed best in a state of madcap delirium. Not that we won't write awesome tunes. Tunes are great. They're there to be grappled with.

It's yet to really pick up - last day of uni was today so I'm only really gonna kick things into gear next week. Several people have signalled interest, though! It's gonna be ace.

actually I don't have a single one, consider yourself invited to the next rehearsal - people are such, such flakes
― acoleuthic, Tuesday, 31 August 2010 19:03 (fourteen years ago) link
I may hold you to that, but aren't you going to be playing bass or are you thinking of more like a Neds thing?
Tell us more details about the rehearsal you had.
― disastrous sixth series (MaresNest), Tuesday, 31 August 2010 19:07 (fourteen years ago) link
I'm going to be *just* doing vocals.
The rehearsal we had was just me, my friend Chiara (who will be one of the drummers, we think) and a synth-player who insisted everyone plugged into massive goddamn amplifiers :D
Dude was great - I'd suggest a note or couple of notes and he'd play the right chord! What a star.
We want a really loud, psychedelic, swirly guitarist to play noisy chords, and a really apocalyptic rhythm-section - there will also be quieter bits and it'll all be a kinda great arty rave-up with SONGS
although he insisted I amend our first tune to 4-time for purposes of ease - THIS AINT THE END OF THAT ONE

― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Thursday, 23 September 2010 15:41 (fourteen years ago) link
there's a full band rehearsal on saturday. except the dude who was at a previous rehearsal and has been mysteriously unable to send emails or texts just got in touch to invite me to his old band's final gig tonight (having not been at the pubmeet of my lot last night) and upon me reminding him that there was a rehearsal on saturday which I'd already told him about more than once, and saying that I probably couldn't make his gig, his response was as follows:
Shit. Not about on sat. Were on at 1030.Really excited as i'vejust discovered thewonders of pavement!
what he then received was the text and email equivalents of a suggest ban

i would join this band if i lived in london but i probably wouldn't be able to show up to all practices tbh :(

maybe if you missed like three in a row I'd send you a really sweary text and it'd end badly
kinda hoping this guy brushes my anger off and gets his shit together
― acoleuthic, Thursday, 23 September 2010 23:44 (fourteen years ago) link
that's a lot of people. one suggestion that comes to mind is to have regular (weekly or more) practices with the core members (like rythm section +1) & less regular or sporadic practices with the full band? is this guy totally necessary every time or
also super important to squelch & supress ill feeling towards band mates at this level of professionalism imo. like so many times i could've raged at our guitarist for showing up hours late/cancelling last minute but i'm glad i didn't because now we're just good buds and real close & he matured and grew out of all of that in a pretty painless and natural way after a while
― no snrubs (samosa gibreel), Thursday, 23 September 2010 23:50 (fourteen years ago) link
he's the synth player but he seems to be on the same-ish page which isn't a regular thing so maybe we'll both calm down and I'll get him along to the next but one
I think getting 3 of us together not in a recording studio would be a good money-saving idea and yeah basically let's see how Saturday goes

LONDON PEOPLE!
I'm looking for a click literate drummer. Needs to be pretty good. Hard hitters encouraged. Obvs must have own gear. Rehearsals then label showcases then gigging. I can probably provide money for the showcases (there probably won't be many, one or two) and after them can sort out some sort of employment rate (I have no idea, I'll let management take care of that). East London would be easiest. Tracks are pretty heavy pop with lots of disco elements in there. Send me an email and I'll reply with a zip of tracks. email pleasecruelty at gmail dot comIf yr not a drummer but you know one could you pass the word on please? There seems to be quite the shortage atm.

I would like to join another band.
Unfortunately the one at the start of this thread is not my kind of thing.
But if that band breaks up and takes new musical directions then maybe they can join me.
